Blitzboks down Scotland to stay unbeaten in Dubai

By Mark Etheridge

Despite an early hiccup, South Africa made it consecutive wins on day one of the Dubai leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series on Friday.

After whitewashing Uganda 46-0 in their opening match they overcame a plucky Scottish side 21-5 with only their final group match against the United States to come.

Seabelo Senatla, scorer of two tries in the Uganda match, was nearly over early on after having turned over possession but was pushed into touch just metres short.

Then, with just under 30 seconds of the first half remaining James Fleming sliced open the Blitzboks defence and not even the speedy Senatla could prevent him dotting down – halftime 5-0 to Scotland.

The Blitzboks were level, then ahead a minute after the break when the selfsame Senatla cut inside two Scottish defenders to score and Justin Geduld added the conversion.

Captain Philip Snyman went close after some good work before the ball was knocked on but with around three minutes to go Rosko Specman gave the Blitzboks some breathing space as he followed a Geduld kick into the pocket, hoofed it ahead and dotted down centimetres inside the deadball line.

But that wasn’t the end and at the hooter, Senatla (who else!) went clear under the posts and Geduld’s conversion made the final score 21-5.
