Chad chasing down overall World Cup title

Chad le Clos has edged inexorably closer to the men’s overall FINA World Cup title after another gold medal at the final leg of the competition in Tokyo, Japan, writes Mark Etheridge.
The KwaZulu-Natal swimmer added the 100-metre butterfly title to the 50 and 200m titles he had won on the opening day of competition.
He clocked 48.95sec as he led from start to finish and beat Germany’s Steffen Deibler into the runners-up spot (50.24sec).
Le Clos was the best male performer of the meeting after his 1:49.20 win in the 200m fly secured him 982 points.
In the overall rankings Le Clos now has 414 points, a yawning 121 points clear of Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta (239) and Tom Shields (US) 225 points.
In the women’s category Gyurta’s Hungarian team-mate, Katinka Hosszu is even further ahead with 889 points compared to second-placed Tom Shields of the US (330pts).
Also in Tokyo action Myles Brown added a silver medal to the gold he won the previous day. He clocked 1:42.78 as Kousuke Hagino won the men’s 200m freestyle final¬† in 1:42.62.
And Roland Schoeman who got gold in the 50m breaststroke the previous day, ended seventh in the 50m free. He touched in 21.87 as Shinri Shioura won in 21.38.
