Coach names U-21 squad

The South African U21 men’s hockey team manager, Mark Jenneker, has named a national squad to attend a training camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria from 27 November to 1 December.

ÔÇ£This is indeed the players’ reward for all the sacrifices and hard work that they have put into their game,ÔÇØ said the Port Elizabeth-based Jenneker.

Amongst the 32-man national training squad there are 13 Western Province players.

These WP players include Grant Robertson who made his debut in the SA men’s national side in the second Test match against world number 11 Argentina at Kaspersky Park in Randburg late last month.

Southern Gauteng have four players in the SA Under-21 training squad, including midfielder Clinton Panther, who is fast making a name for himself in the senior national team after outstanding performances in the Africa Cup-winning South African line-up in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe last month.

KZN Inland also have four players in the 32-man training squad, while Amatole (Border) have three. Free State, Eastern Province, Northerns Blues and KZN Coastal have two apiece.

KZN Coastal’s Sumanth Sunkari was initially included but withdrew as he is in the running for possible inclusion in the SA Under-19 Junior World Cup cricket squad. Sunkari was replaced by Travis Hardnick of KZN Inland.
