Dance hoping to fine-tune fitness ahead of World Cup

Former All Africa Games triathlete Lauren Dance has had a tough introduction to her European campaign but has vowed to bounce back this weekend.
Dance, who turned 25 last week, was racing the Châteauroux ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup in France and ended one position lower than her age.
The East Rand athlete was runner-up at the ATU Sprint Triathlon African Cup in Cape Town earlier this year and ended her 2014 season with another silver at the African Championships in Troutbeck in Zimbabwe back in December.
But various problems meant that her last competitive race was the African Cup in Cape Town.
In France at the weekend, she clocked 66min 40sec as German Lisa Sieburger covered the 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run in a time of 61:30.
‘It was hot and humid and I’m just not used to racing right now and the intensity is way higher than what I’m used to right now,’ she told Road to Rio 2016 from France.
‘Also, I had bronchitis for three weeks just before I left, so at the time I was meant to be doing intensity work, I was just focusing on getting better. But I’m sure in a week or so I will feel a lot better. My time will come one day – the reality is if you’re only 90% right you’ll still get killed at a level like this.’
The European Cup is of similar standard to a World Cup race and Dance will soon be turning her attention to just that when she lines up for the Tiszaujvaros World Cup in Hungary two weeks for now.
‘I raced there as a junior and then again in 2012. It’s the best race on the circuit and all the SA girls are going to be there. So you race a semi final on the sat and hopefully get into the final on the Sunday.’
Before that though she’s running a 5150 event, also in France, but this time in Marseille. ‘It’s an Olympic distance, non-drafting event and part of the Ironman group so nothing related to ITU.’
‘I’m sure the next few races will be a bit better. It’s just a bit of fitness… otherwise I’m 100!’ she concluded.
