Hilton heads back to Europe with some hot form

By Mark Etheridge

Paralympic Games veteran Hilton Langenhoven swops South African winter for European summer and a European training camp on Saturday.
And the former Paralympics gold medallist is in hot form as he heads north.
Last weekend he competed in Stuttgart, German at an IPC-sanctioned German Invitational competition.
And the Western Cape athlete refused to let thunderstorms, heavy rain and low temperatures put him off his stride.
Racing both the 200 and 400m in the T12 (visually impaired events) he ran Olympic A qualifying standards again with gold in both races.
His times were 22.15 for the short sprint and 50.43 for the 400m, both of them season’s bests.
‘I was running in lane eight in both races, with the rain and wind in my face, but still managed to execute well to take the honours,’ Langenhoven told Road to Rio 2016.
‘I improved on my times ran at the Nationals earlier this year. Due to conditions we were delayed for almost two hours but I felt extremely good during the latter part of both races and are well on my way to reach my personal bests very soon, should I be able to get into another competition or two. Thank you very much to SASCOC and the OPEX programme as without them this opportunity would not be possible.’
Langenhoven and coach Raymond Julius will now be hoping that the powers that be sanction more competition ahead of the Games as he has only raced two competitions thus far this year.
