Jobodwana adds to SA athletics delight with a new sprint record

South African athletics can feel justly proud after a great day of sport for the code.
After Gift Kelehe and Caroline Wöstmann had taken the men’s and women’s titles at the Comrades Marathon road race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg Anaso Jobodwana improved on his own 200-metre track record in the United States.
Jobodwana ran 20.04 seconds at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon to clip 0.02sec off his own SA record set two weeks prior to that.
The Eastern Cape athlete, a finalist in the Olympics three years ago, took second pot behind former Olympic champion Justin Gatlin of the US (19.68). Jamaica’s Nickel Ashmeade took bronze in 20.18.
Other South Africans in action in the classic track and field meeting were Andre Olivier, Johan Cronje and Stephen Mokoka.
Olivier took seventh in the 800m with a 1:46.10 clocking, while Cronje, still on the way back to fitness after an illness setback, was eighth in the mile in 3:53.02.
Mokoka, who recently set a national 10km road best in Manchester, United Kingdom, clocked 27:43.73 for 14th spot in the 10,000m.
