Legote takes fifth spot in Brazil meeting

South Africa and the African continent’s top rhythmic gymnast, Grace Legote, has taken fifth spot in an international meeting in Brazil.
The competition was held in Vitória, Espírito Santo and ended earlier this week.
With eight girls participating in the All-Round Final, Grace’s performance in Brazil saw her getting high scores of 15.500 for Hoop, 15,650 for Ball, 16,200 for Clubs and 15,450 for Ribbon and she continues to fly the South African flag high at all her international competitions.
The Brazil meeting was the final international in what was her most busiest international year to date. Her year in review saw her compete in five competitions, in Uzbekistan (May), Russia (August), Germany (September), Japan (October) and finally this latest one in Brazil.
The ultimate goal was to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games,  while at the same time get valuable international exposure and experience to prepare for 2016.
As a result of Grace’s performance at the 2015 World Championships in September in Germany, the South African Gymnastics Federation has received an approval letter from the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), granting her participation at the Rio Olympics.
It was not an easy task in attaining the (FIG) qualifying criteria, with Grace narrowly pipping Egyptian Sara Mohamed Rostom to the post by 0,133 points, and acquiring first Africa placing at the World Champs. Her attendance at the Rio Olympic Games though will ultimately to be decided by Olympic governing body SASCOC.
Having said that, the reigning Africa Champion has had an incredible year. Not only did she improve on her personal best and South African best scores, she cemented her place as the best rhythmic gymnast in Africa.
The SAGF is hugely proud of Grace’s wonderful achievements recorded this entire year, as well as appreciates the hard work, commitment and dedication of her coach Tatiana Lavrentchouk-Vizer.
Born in the small town of Ganalaagte in North West Province, she has indeed turned out to be South Africa’s very own ‘Amazing Grace’.
