Montjane makes merry in Melbourne to win doubles title

Wheelchair tennis Paralympian Kgothathatso Montjane is back from Australia with a doubles title under the belt, writes Mark Etheridge.
She competed in the Melbourne Open where she was beaten by Netherlands No1 seed Aniek van Koot, 7-6 (2) 6-4.
The doubles proved far more successful though as she teamed up with Britain’s Lucy Shuker.
In the semi-finals they overcame top-seeded Jui Kamiji of Japan and Jordanne Whiley (Britain) in three sets, 4-6 0-6 10-6. The latter combination were four-times Grand Slam champions in 2014.
In the final KG, as she is known on the circuit, beat the Netherlands/German combination of Marjolein Buis and Sabine Ellerbrock 6-4 7-6 (6).
‘I’m coming home now and my game is looking great,’ she told Road to Rio 2016. ‘I starting putting my game together and getting back to aggressive tennis which is what I enjoy but there’s still more to work to get even better and keep building up the confidence.
‘Now I think we have World Team cup qualifiers in Kenya at the end of February, then we have the US tour which will our preparation for our two big SA tournaments coming up in April.’
