Olympian Buys leads six-strong SA side for MTB World Champs

A team of six cyclists have been named for next month’s UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships in the Czech Republic.
That team will be made up of three elite men, one Under-23 rider and a male and female junior cyclist.
Olympic and Commonwealth rider Philip Buys (pictured above) spearheads the men’s side, along with James Reid and Stellenbosch’s Team Songo.info rider Sipho Madolo.
The world championships take place at Nové Mēsto na Moravē from 29 June to 3 July.
No elite or U23 women met the Cycling South Africa MTB selection criteria for this event.
The team for the UCI Downhill World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy early in September will be announced at a later stage.
85ce12b8-18c7-4f73-8b1a-78ebc661a7a2African Youth Games champion Alan Hatherly (pictured above) is the sole U23 representative and Henry Liebenberg and Danielle Strydom fly the junior flag for SA.
Buys shared his plans with Road to Rio 2016 after the team announcement. ‘After the SA Cup race in PE I took a week off just to recuperate and regroup before we start with build-up this week for the rest of the season. It’s been a long haul now since the first qualifying race in February this year, so now was the only time to take a breather.
‘I’m only planning on going to Europe for worlds and the Swiss World Cup after that. But first a solid block of training over the next few weeks.
‘We’re coming to the end of our local XCO season, and the euros are only starting now, so from previous experiences it does not make sense to push through now and try to maintain a high level, try to compete with them and eventually burn out.
‘My first training peak is behind me and its now time to build up for the next most important ones, worlds and hopefully the Olympics.’

hi everybody! Im lenell hattingh from bulldog rescue sa and together with our small dedicated team we assist english, french and american bulldogs in need of a new home. we have a facebook group which can be found on this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/englishfrenchblldogrescue/ . so because we are getting more and more bulldogs in ans we need funds to help us to pay our vet bills as some of our bulldogs need to get cherry eye ops, soft palate op and if they are not neuterd or steri we also do it - you can just imagine the bills \U0001f609 so Jolanda and I decided to see if we can possibly enter a bulldog rescue team for the 947 cycle race this year and raise some serious funds for bull rescue.
