Radford’s mission ahead of Mexico City

Radford

By Mark Etheridge

A mixed bag of experiences in Edmonton saw SA triathlete Anel Radford move on to Montreal, and after that continuing on her mission to Mexico City… another week in the life of an international triathlete.

Australian-based Radford criss-crosses the globe on the International Triathlon Union circuit, and her latest excursion is just another chapter in her sporting travel documentary.

She placed 27th in the weekend’s Edmonton, Canada WTS race. ‘Edmonton was a mixed bag for me. I executed well in some areas, but not well enough in others,’ she told Team SA.

‘I now have 10 days of work preparing for the World Cup in Mexico. I’m really looking forward to another opportunity to put a few more processes together under race conditions.’

Montreal is a training stop ahead of Mexico City, but it didn’t come without its travails. ‘I had a nightmare travel experience from Edmonton. Lost bags, dodgy accommodation, walking around Montreal in the middle of the night to find a place to stay. It’s been a really stressful couple of days.’

’Now I’m spending some time training with Kyla Rollinson’s group of Canadian athletes. It’s been great to have a base here between races, and a good group of athletes to train with and to show me around.

‘I’ll travel to Mexico from here before heading back to Spain. The World Cup in Mexico will be the last race for this block of races for me.

‘I’ve done a lot of racing since the start of July and have loved it, but it will be back to training for a bit after Mexico to build towards the last races of the season.’
