Just two swimmers were in action for South Africa at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Mexico on Wednesday.

It was a girls-only day on the fifth day of action at the 2017 Para Sports Festival in Mexico City where powerlifting is the other sport featured.

A Paralympian in Rio last year, Ferreira (pictured with the SA flag) had three races in the Francisco Marquez pool.

In the morning Ferreira swam the timed final of the SB 13 100-metre breaststroke and swam a good race for fourth spot in a time of 1min 27.90sec as American Colleen Young won in a championship record 1.17.21.

She also swam SM 13 200m Individual Medley heats where she came fifth in 3:03.46.

Later in the evening Ferreira went faster in the final (her final race of the championships) to take fifth again in a time of 2:57.10 as Italy’s Carlotta Gilli once again came out tops in 2:25.92.

SA’s other swimmer was Christelle Kriel who went off in the S14 100m backstroke final.

She took sixth in a time of 1:20.79 as Germany’s Janina Breuer won in 1:11.02.

SA swimmers in Friday’s heat action will be double silver medallist Christian Sadie in the SM 7 200m IM, also his last race of the meet.

On the other end of the scale, David McKlopper swims his first event of the meet, the S2 100m backstroke. Then Franco Smit is in action over 100m in the S12 freestyle and Kriel goes off in the S14 100m butterfly.
