Senatla’s four tries sink England in Paris

By Mark Etheridge

The Seabelo Senatla show saw South Africa’s Blitzboks sevens rugby side soar past England in their opening encounter of the Paris leg of the World Rugby Series in France on Friday evening.
After an early scare when Charlie Hayter picked up a bungled ball between the South African defence just 30sec into the game to make it 5-0, the Blitzboks barged their way to victory with not one, not two, not three but four unanswered tries by speedster Senatla.
End result a 24-5 win to South Africa after two conversions by Cecil Africa added to Senatla’s quartet of tries.
His first try came with just over four minutes to play in the first half as he intercepted an English movement as they tried to break out from their half.
More pressure and persisting by the Blitzboks saw him cross for a converted try after the hooter and Neil Powell’s men went into the break 14-5 to the good.
Coach Powell told his charges at halftime to close the space, keep their discipline and go forwards and it was textbook stuff as Senatla notched his hat-trick with three minutes to play.
After a few substitutions on both sides it was 15-code ace Francois Hougaard who made an immediate difference as he tied up pretty much half the English side to release Senatla for his fourth try… and his 149th World Series score.
Saturday sees the Blitzboks take on Brazil (12.42pm SA time) and Australia (4.15pm ) in their remaining Pool C fixtures.
