This week saw the passing of Anele Makhwelo, a registered professional boxer with Boxing South Africa (BSA).
A statement issued by Boxing South Africa says that Makhwelo passed away at around 9.30pm on Tuesday of this week, following an operation at the Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein. The boxer required the surgery after taking part in the South African Flyweight title bout on Friday, 7 October.
Exact details of the cause of death were not available.
It is always sad to see the passing of an individual, but especially sad when it is a young and talented athlete and on behalf of the President of SASCOC, Mr Gideon Sam, the SASCOC Board, CEO, Mr Tubby Reddy and all members of SASCOC, South Africa’s Olympic governing body wishes to extend condolences to the family and all who knew Makhwelo.
