The curtain has come down on Team SA’s Commonwealth Games campaign in Birmingham. The team goes home with a total of 27 medals – seven gold, nine silvers and 11 bronze medals. The Games were officially closed in a glittering closing ceremony at Alexander Stadium on Monday night.

David hasn’t quite slayed Goliath but he has landed a few blows which have shaken up the established order at these Commonwealth Games.

Team SA picked up another three medals on Saturday at the Commonwealth Games. Boxers Simnikiwe Bongco and Philokuhle Mnguni lost their semi-final bouts but took home bronze. Wrestling's Steyn de Lange won silver, while 400m hurdler Zeney van der Walt won bronze. That takes TeamS A's total medals to 26 – 7 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze.

Team SA started the ninth day of competition with 22 medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – seven golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes. They are guaranteed at least two bronze medals in boxing, as there are two boxers in the semi-finals and the losing semi-finalist receives a bronze. Simnikiwe Bongco and Philokuhle Mnguni will be looking for more than bronze, though! #TeamSA

Team SA started the eighth day of competition on Friday with 22 medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – seven golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes. The women's hockey team beat Wales 1-0 to finish in seventh position. Team SA's netballers lost their fifth and sixth playoff match 54-46 to Uganda and end the Games in sixth place.
