Kevin through to semis

Kevin Anderson’s fine run at the Brisbane International tennis tournament continued on Thursday as he booked a place in the semi-finals.

Our top-ranked player (No 61 on the ATP Tour rankings) out-duelled Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo in a tough three-setter quarter-final. The South African prevailed 2-6 6-3 6-4 in a match that lasted almost two hours.

There was more impressive service games from Anderson (first service percentage 77%) as he fired down 12 aces compared to just three by Giraldo, a player ranked three positions lower than him.

Anderson has now banked a handy $20,825 for making the semi-finals but the going gets all the tougher from here on in. He now plays second seed Andy Roddick in the semi-finals after the American beat fifth-seeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets, 6-2 6-3.
