Argentina back on track?

Juan Martin Del Potro restored some pride to the dented Argentinian sporting pysche when he posted a great 6-4 3-6 7-6 victory over world tennis number one Rafael Nadal today to reach the semi-finals of the Sony Ericcson Open in Miami, Florida.

Argentinian morale was rock bottom after the national soccer side had gone down 6-1 to minnows Bolivia in World Cup qualifying action earlier in the week.

Big-serving Del Potro, who came back from 3-0 down in the third set, now faces Andy Murray for a place in the final after the Briton crushed Spain’s Fernando Verdasco 6-1 6-2.

The tall Argentine takes his place in the last four of a Masters event for the first time with the crowd-pleasing victory. It was also his first win over Nadal at the fifth attempt.
