ASA confirm Motsoeneng banning

Athletics South Africa (ASA) have endorsed the findings of the Tribunal hearing regarding the Sergio Motsoeneng case confirming the decision that the athlete be declared ineligible to participate in athletics for a two-year period commencing on 10 August 2010.

The confirmation was reached at the first sitting of the newly-elected ASA board in Durban at the weekend.

Motsoeneng tested positive for the prohibited substance, Norandrosterone, a metabolite or precursor of Nandrolone after finishing third at the 2010 Comrades Marathon.

In terms of the Rules and the finding of the Tribunal, Motsoeneng will forfeit all prize money and the gold medal he won at the Comrades Marathon. In addition he will be required to submit to doping control tests during his period of ineligibility.

The ASA Board recommitted itself to the anti-doping campaign and will revitalise ASA’s anti-doping offensive.
