Things are heating up on the second-last day of the Telkom SA Level 2 Championships which are being held simultaneously in Port Elizabeth, Durban and Johannesburg.
It was the battle of the Barracudas in PE Sunday night as Thys Basson claimed two more gold medals in the 100m freestyle (1:06.83) and 200m individual medley (2:49.12), outracing his team-mate Brandon Arlow who won silver in both events (1:07.14 and 2:49.91 respectively).
Later in the evening Basson also raced to his second silver medal in the 50m breaststroke (41.11).
Eleven-year-old Arlow holds gold in the 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
Times were certainly on the rise in Durban as Nakita Bauristhere continued to shine adding two more gold medals to her record in the 100m freestyle (1:05.88) and 200m individual medley (2:42.44), taking her total to five golds and one silver.
Seals’ Tshiamo Tshabalala was in fantastic form taking home her second gold medal of the competition in the 50m breaststroke (36.05) and silver in the 200m individual medley (2:54.67).
Nathania van Niekerk from PSA in Limpopo took Germiston to new levels of excellence on Sunday following her two golds in the 100m backstroke (1:14.10) and 200m individual medley (2:40.32) and silver in the 100m freestyle (1:09.89).
Van Niekerk also claimed two golds in the 400m freestyle and 50m backstroke, silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m butterfly over the course of the championship.
Monday sees the final day of swimming action take place at the Newton Park Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth, Delville Swimming Pool in Germiston and the Kings Park Aquatics Centre in Durban.
