The year of 2010 has finally come and gone and January, 2011 is all but done as well.
One project is barely finished and we’re straight into the next project. It just seems never-ending. There’s no doubt that 2010 was a long and hard year with all those many projects. Having said that though, all the projects have been very successful in the long run.
Already this year we’ve seen our para-athletes in action at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand and it’s always an inspiration to watch them compete and see their incredible spirt.
February kicks off with a media briefing at Olympic House where the Minister of Sport, Fikile Mbalula and our president Gideon Sam will talk on the year ahead and update various strategies.
This year will also see an increased focus being put on our mission of getting 12 medals at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Then there’s the important IOC Session in Durban mid-year. But that’s not all we’re looking at. We have the Commonwealth Youth Games to look after (in the Isle of Man) as well as Africa’s own Olympics, the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique towards the end of the year.
Add to this the coaching framework coming together and the National Academy System and there’s more than enough to keep us busy.
