Three golds for Dicks

Team SA celebrated with 21 medals on the third day of the CANA Zone 3 & 4 Championships in Botswana on Friday.

A total of 10 golds, four silvers and seven bronze medals came the way of the high-flying South Africans.

Sixteen-year-old Sharne Dicks claimed the gold in all her races on Friday. She started off with the 400-metre freestyle, where she secured the top spot in a time of 4min 41.68sec, followed by a first place finish in the 200m backstroke in 2:35.30, team-mate Nakita Hodgson taking the bronze in 2:41.54. To end off day three of the competition, Dicks raced to a golden 1:18.73 in the 100m breaststroke with Hodgson in second with a time of 1:20.96.

Taylor-Jade Kelsey again added two golds to her tally in the 100m butterfly (1:17.37) and the 50m freestyle (29.29) in the 12 & under age group.

Bathandwa Dyantyi raced to her first medal of the competition when she touched the wall in 2:51.44 to claim the bronze in the 200m backstroke (12 & under age group), while Kelsey Ebersohn’s 2:46.90 won her the silver in the 14 & under age group 200m backstroke race.

It was bronze for Nina Finch in the 400m freestyle (14 & under age group), clocking 5:11.43.

On the men’s side in the 15 & over age group, Christoper Ryan did South Africa proud when he swam to a gold medal in the 100m butterfly in 1:03.64, with Steven Botha walking away with the bronze in 1:04.43. Ryan bagged another gold later on in the day in the 100m breaststroke in 1:09.53 and finished with the silver in the 50m freestyle (25.52) followed by Botha in third with 25.88.

Earlier on in the day, Botha swam to the top of the medal podium in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:27.46.

Twelve-year-old Kairav Ramsingh also made it three when he raced to a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke (1:23.67) with the bronze going to Keown Delomoney in 1:25.42, a silver in the 200m backstroke (2:42.12) and a bronze in the 50m freestyle (29.53).

In the morning session, Delomoney claimed the gold in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1:16.14.
