Hunter still in the mix

Our top road cyclist Robbie Hunter remained in contention on the penultimate leg of the Tour Down Under in Australia Saturday.

Hunter placed 11th in the fifth stage, just nine seconds behind stage winner Luis Leon Sanchez of Spain in the 149-kilometre ride between Snapper Point and Willunga.

Sanchez clocked 3hr 29min 39sec to haul himself up to second spot in the general classification standings, behind Germany’s Andre Greipel of HTC-Columbia. Sanchez lies just 11sec adrift before the final stage.

Garmin-Transitions’ Hunter is still in the mix, 30 seconds behind the leader.

Seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, is a further 17sec down the field.

His South African teammate Daryl Impey is 31st, 1:49 off the pace.

Sunday’s final stage is a 90km ride to Adelaide, the shortest of the race’s six stages.
