Khwela’s triumphant homecoming

Commonwealth silver medallist Jennifer Khwela returned home to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.

But there’s no stopping the little powerhouse gymnast as she sets her sights on the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Her road to a possible podium in London features a number of competitions where she gets the chance to compete with the best in the world, both on home soil and abroad.

To this end she will compete at two World Cup competitions in Croatia and Germany as well as the Bumbo Gymnastics Cup event in Tshwane on 2-4 December at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne, Centurion.

Khwela won silver in the vault final of the artistic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi earlier this month and also placed sixth in the beam final.

No stranger to achieving medal success she claimed the gold medal in vault as well as a bronze in the beam at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup A in March this year. The strong upward trend of her results means that she currently ranks sixth in the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) world vaulting rankings.
