Meas stars in France

Ray Meas was the star of the South African team that did duty at the fourth World Age Group competition and 11th World Aerobic Gymnastics Championships in Rodez, France.

The championships are a biannual event and a highlight of the aerobic calendar that brings the best of the world’s gymnasts together.

The SA team featured six gymnasts in Meas, Geraldine Jahn, Dominique Mann, Rachel Wood, Thlakiso WIlson Mafona and junior competitor Demi Botha.

Meas ended 19th of 35 competitors with 19.450 points in the men’s individual qualifying competition. This beats his target of 20th or better and a great achievement considering that he faces a demanding schedule as a medical student.

Demi Botha scored 16.450 in the qualifying round of the Individual Women 15-17 age-group competition and the 15-year-old will have another opportunity to improve at the next World Age Group Competition.

Dominique, Rachel and Ray had an impressive routine in their Trio competition, ending up 23rd with a score of 17.534. This was close to their target of coming 20th of the pack, which is part of the development plan of the Aerobic Program Management.

In the Mixed-pair qualifiers, Rachel and Ray came 23rd with a score of 17.55 and Geraldine and Wilson collected 17.400 points to come in 25th.

Wilson Mafona ended 25th in the men’s individual qualifying competition, claiming 18.300 points.

The South Africans were the only African delegation to the international competition and the South Africans did well to represent both their country and continent.
