Wes into US Open quarters

Wes Moodie and Dick Norman are into the quarter-finals of the US Open tennis tournament at Flushing Meadows, New York.

Moodie, our top ranked doubles player, having moved up three spots to the world No 22 ranking, and Belgium’s Norman roared through the third round when they easily disposed of the unseeded Brazilian duo of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.

The tournament’s 10th seeds went through in straight sets, 6-2 6-2.

They now come up against the 16th seeds, the combination of India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.

Moodie and Norman were done a huge favour by this duo who beat the tournament’s second seeds, Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic 6-3 6-4 in the third round.

Meanwhile, Moodie also has an interest in the mixed doubles. He and American Lisa Raymond play Liezel Huber (formerly of SA) and /Bob Bryan the No1 seeds from USA in the quarter-finals. Moodie and Raymond beat Belarus’ Olga Govortsova and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski 6-4 7-6 in the second round.
