Moodie in second round

Wesley Moodie is through to the second round of the ATP 250 If Stockholm Open in Sweden, writes Mark Etheridge.

The Durban born doubles specialist and our top-ranked doubles player at No21 in the world teamed up with regular partner Dick Norman (ranked 24th).

The pair accounted for the Israeli/Australian combination of Jonathan Erlich and Jordan Kerr in the first round. It was by no means an easy match for Moodie and Kerr and they needed three tough sets before going through 6-7 7-6 (5) 10-7. Kerr has a doubles ranking of 61st and Erlich 46th.

In their first round match, the opponents shared the aces tally at two apiece, double faults were three for Moodie and Norman and four for their opponents. Both sides had a first service percentage rate in the mid 60 percent range.

Seeded second for the tournament being played at the Kungliga Tennishallen, Moodie and Norman will now face the all-Scandinavian team of wildcards Henri Kontinen (Finland) and Michael Ryderstedt (Sweden) in the second round.

Eventual winners of the doubles category will earn US$29,000 for their efforts.
