More honours roll in for Sunette

It’s been a busy few days for our Commonwealth Games javelin champion Sunette Viljoen, writes Mark Etheridge.

Still basking in the glory of a successful defence of her Games title in New Delhi, earlier this year, there were still more accolades for the 27-year-old North-West athlete.

In Joubertina, Eastern Cape she was a guest speaker at the McLachlan High School’s prestige evening. “As a kid I always dreamt of what my signature would look like and the dream became a reality. I’m so grateful to the school, they treated me like a real national hero,” Viljoen said.

The awards didn’t stop there though. On Wednesday night she was named as Potchefstroom University’s sports woman of the year. “It feels very special to be rewarded for all the hard work put in,” she said.
