Simone Kruger continues to push back personal boundaries and the latest came in the Women’s Para Athletics World Cup in Olomouc, Cezh Republic. The 20-year-old, who is now fulltime student at Stellenbosch University, bettered her own South African and African record in the F37 shot put.
She won the gold medal wih a distance of 12.14m, which eclipses her previous best of 11.69m set in March 2023. Kruger is the reigning Paralympic gold medallist in the F38 discus from Paris last year.
Kruger was representing South Africa as one of 41 different countries involved in Olomouc.
Taking to Facebook, her father Andries posted the following:
“Simone was on review which means you need to apply for a spot at an International event to get a new classification. After an extensive detailed evaluation the classifiers decided that they will suggest the F37 classification and during the competition she will be under observation which means that they will still evaluate her during the Discus and Shot Put events.
“Thus for now during this competition she competes as a F37 athlete and not as previously as a F38 athlete. After the final decision has been made by the World Para Athletic classifiers we will post an update on what’s next and what this means for Simone’s career going forward.”
