Proteas women on the brink of playoffs

A victory over Bangladesh in tonight’s final ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group stage clash will see the Proteas through to the semi-finals of the competition.

The Proteas looked dead and buried after a hefty six-wicket defeat to Australia, but New Zealand’s rout of Sri Lanka in their clash on Sunday gave South Africa a chance to progress to the playoffs if they beat Bangladesh on Tuesday.

With tonight’s group stage encounter transformed into an eliminator, the pressure will be intensified, but the Proteas will take confidence in their one-sided record over their opponents: nine wins for South Africa in their last ten matches against Bangladesh.

Newlands will play host to another blockbuster encounter on Tuesday, with England locking horns with Pakistan at 3pm. Pakistan have already been eliminated from the competition, claiming a solitary victory in the group stage, but an unbeaten England side are already through to the knockouts and will look to make it four from four wins going into the semi-finals.

The Proteas’ match will start at 7pm and be broadcast on the SuperSport Grandstand and Cricket channels.
