Region V star hits top flight

16-year-old Siyabonga Mabena made his PSL debut for Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday evening as Masandawana thrashed Royal AM 5-1.

Mabena made headlines after he finished with nine goals at the COSAFA U17 Championship, a 2022 Region V Games tournament that took place in Malawi.

These exploits saw the youngster awarded the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament accolades.

With Sundowns already 5-1 up and on their way to extending a dominant lead at the top of the PSL table, Mabena was substituted on in the 76th minute to get his first taste of top flight football.

Man of the match, captain Themba Zwane, was full of praise for the up-and-coming star.
