Roberts, Scheepers bow out in quarter-finals

South Africa’s top two bowls players, Wayne Roberts and Anneke Scheepers, have bowed out of the 2024 World Bowls Champion of Champions at the quarter-final stage in Auckland.

Roberts had won seven of his eight round-robin matches before coming up against Canada’s Pat Bird in the last eight, where he was beaten.

Similarly, Scheepers had come through her section of pool matches impressively, with five of seven wins. However, she came up against Australia’s Lainia McGorman in the quarter-finals, which is where her tournament also came to an end.

Lawn bowls is one of the 10 sports that will be on the competition roster at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
