South Africa started Tuesday at the World University Games in Germany with six medals, all in the pool, with Pieter Coetze (pictured) winning two gold and a silver, while Lara van Niekerk has a silver and two University Games Team SA relay squads have won bronze. Bayanda Walaza won 100m gold on the track while Olivia Nel, Gabriella Marais and Colette Uys added bronzes to the tally.

Men’s Recurve Individual Ranking round: Wian Roux qualified in 69th position and Connor Young in 71st position
Men’s Compound Individual Ranking round: Hercules Aucamp qualified in 32nd position and Ignus de Wet qualified in 50th

Women’s 1m springboard, preliminary: Bailey Heydra placed 12th and qualified for the final while Grace Brammer (19th) and Kerry-Leigh Morrison (22nd) didn’t progress to the final.

Men’s 50m freestyle, heats: Guy Brooks finished 2nd in his heat in 22.96 which placed him 25th overall he he missed out on a place in the semi-finals
Men’s 200m backstroke, heats: Dylan Wright finished 7th in his heat in 2:02.93 and qualified 24th overall, missing out on a place in the semi-finals
Men’s 4x200m freestyle, heats: University Games Team SA (Arno Kruger, Righardt Muller, Cameron Joshua and Dylan Wright) finished 3rd in their heat in 7:30.43 and didn’t progress to the final
Women’s 50m freestyle, heats: Michaela de Villiers finished 5th in her heat in 25.82 while Olivia Nel placed 3rd in her heat in 25.39. They both progressed to the semi-finals, in 16th and 6th positions, respectively
Women’s 50m freestyle, semi-finals: Olivia Nel won her semi-final in 245.96 while Michaela de Villiers finished 8th in the same semi in 25.84. Nel qualified 2nd fastest for the final but De Villiers missed out
