The South African Gymnastics Federation has named the aerobic team that will represent the country at the African Aerobics Gymnastic Nations Championships in Brazzaville, Congo.
The championships will be hosted by the Congolese Gymnastics Federation at the Gym Maxime Matsima Makelekele venue from 12-14 September.
The SA team will consist of three senior gymnasts who will represent the federation at the event.
Current SA champion and senior aerobic gymnast of the year, Wilson Mafona will compete in the individual men and mixed pairs category, where he will team up with Kwazulu-Natal’s Demi Botha, who will also compete in the individual women’s event.
The third South African gymnast is Micayla Frost who will only compete in the individual women’s event.
The aerobics gymnast team will not travel alone to Congo as they will be joined by four SA Gymnastics officials for the event.
These officials include Tseko Mogotsi, Shirley Frost, coach Emelda Botha and one official judge, Clive Naidoo.
Although the championships are set to begin 12 September, the teams are scheduled to arrive three days earlier in order to get time to train on site and attend the event’s opening day.
The African championships will host both junior and senior competitions in various events, and will conclude with a closing dinner.
