South Africa returned from the Lawn Bowls 2025 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur with one medal, a bronze in the men’s para singles earned by Jarid James.
Twelve nations – the host country Malaysia, plus the 11th highest overall countries from the 2023 World Championships – Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong China, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA and Wales have been competing in this global championship – a new addition to the World Bowls calendar.
It’s one of the sport’s highest-ranked international competitions outside the Commonwealth Games and World Championships.
South Africa finished 12th overall, behind Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong China.
Performances were:
Mixed Pairs: Lost a close opener to England in a tiebreaker, beat Malaysia in a tiebreaker thriller, lost both sets to the USA, lost both sets to Australia and ended on a high note, peeling the first set and winning the second 6-3 against Ireland.
Para Men’s Singles: Jarid James lost his opening game to India, came back to beat Malaysia in a tiebreaker, defeated Wales, winning both sets, beat Canada, again taking both sets and losed out section play with a strong two-set win over New Zealand. He finished top of his section and advanced to the semi-finals where he lost but won a bronze medal .
