National Olympic governing body SASCOC on Wednesday hosted a breakfast of appreciation for the work done by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).
The event was held at the Pretoria offices of the NLC and attended by many sporting dignitaries and athletes.
Among them were 2018 Commonwealth Games medal-winning track and field athletes Henricho Bruintjies, Ruswahl Samaai and Jonathan Ntutu.
At the breakfast SASCOC thanked the NLC for the generous funding received which made it possible to financially reward Team South Africa’s medallists and coaches at the Games.
‘Thanks to the NLC we were able to go into the public space and say this is how much we are going to give for the athletes’ incentives,’ said SASCOC President Gideon Sam.
‘We can change the mood of the SA public because when we come back triumphant it changes the psyche of the people.’
Added SASCOC Acting CEO, Ms Patience Shikwambana. ‘It’s due to the likes of the NLC that we are able to deliver medal-winning teams to multi-code events like the recent Commonwealth Games in Australia. We look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with the NLC.’
Also at the breakfast, NLC chairman, Professor Alfred Nevhutanda received a commemorative signed shirt by Commonwealth double gold medallist and SA flagbearer Caster Semenya.
