Schoeman shows class

Roland Schoeman made his intentions known early as he posted a World Championship qualifying time at the Telkom SA National Aquatics Championships at the Kings Park Aquatics Centre in Durban today.
While Bedfordview-based Paralympic 100 metres backstroke gold medallist
Shireen Sapiro set a world record of 2 min 33.18 in the 200m backstroke in the S10 (limited mobility classification), Schoeman posted 21.83sec in the 50m freestyle heats to dip under the qualifying mark of 22.33 in the race for national team places for the FINA World Championships in Rome in July.

Neil Versfeld, who recently won the 200 yards breaststroke in a US Open record 1:51.40 at the NCAA Spring Championships in Texas, clocked 1:01.57 in the 100m breaststroke, inside the World Championship B qualifying mark of 1:01.66.

Zimbabwe’s swimming superstar Kirsty Coventry had little trouble in┬áadvancing to the semi-finals of the 200 metres backstroke in clocking a┬áWorld Championship B qualifying time of 2:12.50.
