Silver paves way to Paris for Potgieter

South African archer Werner Potgieter won silver at the 2023 African Championships which took place in Nabeul, Tunisia.

Potgieter, who is the 2017 and 2018 SA National Champion, competed alongside fellow countrymen Wian Roux, Morgan Blewett and Carien Whitehead at the tournament.

The African Archery Championships functions as the continental qualification event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, offering six available slots for Africa, following World Archery’s decision to transfer the continent’s mixed team positions to this tournament.

The Paris Games tickets will be granted to the mixed team winner at the African Championships, along with the top two performers in the individual events for both recurve men and recurve women.

Every country has the potential to secure only one spot per gender, and any individual positions that exceed this limit will be redistributed, with the reassignment going down to a maximum of eighth place in the final rankings. The mixed team outcome holds precedence in this process.
