Too late for Adrien, Kevin

The MTN Energade pairing of Adrien Niyonshuti and Kevin Evans won the sixth and final stage of the DCM Cape Pioneer Trek stage race by outsprinting two-times World Champion Christoph Sauser and his partner Silvio Bundi on Saturday.

The final stage of the gruelling race was the 114km between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn.

ÔÇ£After finishing second four other times in the event it was great to finish the final stage first and edge the team ever closer to its 100th win of the 2010 season,ÔÇØ said an elated Evans. Evans and Niyonshuti finished the event in second place behind the DCM Team of Knox and Zahnd.

An-Li Pretorius, who had been in a breakaway of four riders for most of the race, raised her arms in victory after claiming the Jacaranda Satellite Road Race over 119km. She outwitted and out classed her breakaway companions by taking the sprint after spending most of this week ill in bed with diarrhoea.

ÔÇ£With just two races remaining in the season it is a great achievement for the team to reach 100 victories. Forty-four victories were on our new Eddy Merckx bikes so from the road team’s and 56 on the Volcan bikes on the MTB team,” said team owner Doug Ryder.

“Our young team and riders have performed really well this season and this success is thanks to all our sponsors, staff and especially our coach and trainer Dr. Carol Austin who looks after the health and wellness of the riders. The icing on the cake is the nine national titles that go with these 100 victories. I look forward to the planning for 2011 which will bring on new challenges for our riders and teams but we still have two races left before this season ends and we will focus on adding them to our win tally,ÔÇØ said team owner Doug Ryder.
