Stoltz stars at Buffelspoort

XTERRA legend Conrad Stoltz proved to be in a league of his own on Saturday when he completed the Duesouth XTERRA Buffelspoort presented by Rehidrat® in an astonishing time of 2hr 14min 02sec, proving once again that he deserves the title of four time XTERRA world champion.
Carla van Huyssteen was a force to be reckoned with in the women’s race.

Stoltz said it was great to once again be racing on home ground.┬áÔÇ£I really enjoyed the Buffelspoort route as it featured a bit of everything. I had a good swim followed by a quick transition onto the mountain bike discipline.┬á I wasn’t able to pre-ride the mountain bike route and as a result was faced with quite a few surprises on the day.

“The run leg was adventurous with athletes having to work their way through water, down one side of the dam, over the dam wall and up the other side again.┬áI regret not having been able to take part in more XTERRA SA events in the past, but thanks to the guidance of my new coach, Ian Rodger, this will soon change.

“It felt like the old days, going up against Lieuwe Boonstra and Dan Hugo, both fantastic athletes.┬á I am really looking forward to the XTERRA SA Champs in February,ÔÇØ says Stoltzs.┬á Dan Hugo came in second, while Lieuwe Boonstra finished third.

Carla van Huyssteen led the individual women’s race from the start.┬áVan Huyssteen said she last competed at XTERRA Buffelspoort three years ago. ÔÇ£The route today was very tough.┬áI had a great swim, but a lingering stomach ailment caused me to lose power on the mountain bike discipline. The run discipline was extremely scenic, reminding me why I take part in these events.

“Our local XTERRAs are definitely on par with the International events, if not better,ÔÇØ says Van Huyssteen, who completed the course in an impressive 2:40:58. Riana De Lange came in second, while Carla Rowley finished third.
