Simbine doesn’t have to prove himself anymore

When they get around to updating the first page of South African sporting greats there surely must be room for Akani Simbine’s name. For the longest time he’s been the fastest man in Africa, the fastest in the Commonwealth. Twice he’s finished in the top five in the Olympic final and three times in the top five in the World Championships final.

Simbine storms to Diamond League victory

Akani Simbine warmed into his Tokyo Olympic preparations with victory at the World Athletics Diamond League meeting in Florence on Thursday night. South Africa’s Commonwealth Games champion and fifth-placed finisher behind Usain Bolt at the 2016 Olympics overcame a sluggish start to finish strongly to win in 10.08sec.
