Team SA in action at the Rio Paralympics on Sunday

By Mark Etheridge

Team South Africa has competitors across seven codes on Sunday, 11 September. Here’s a list of codes and competitors and their times of competition (SA time).
The rainbow nation will be hoping to build on Hilton Langenhoven’s T12 long jump gold on Saturday and Kevin Paul’s SB9 breaststroke gold in the pool on Thursday.
Their best chances of adding to those medals  look to be lying with Fanie van der Merwe and Charl du Toit in the T37 100m final and Ilse Hayes in the T13 100m and both races are within eight minutes of each other.
Meanwhile over at the picturesque Stadium Lagoa, the LTA Mixed 4+ rowers are also in the final and Willie Morgan, Shannon Murray, Lucy Perold, Dylan Trollope, Dieter Rosslee will be looking to bring more glory home.
Said an excited coach, Marco Galeone on the long bus trip back to the Athletes’ Village after Saturday’s action:
‘We need 3sec more speed! We are so close to that medal that I dreamed of four years ago when moved in SA with family, restarting para rowing from zero up, that I will not give up now.
‘These guys are so amazing!! I’ve been having goose bumps today as never in my coaching career.’
In action on Sunday for the first time at these Paralympics are the shooting, powerlifting and dressage codes.
