Team SA’s duathletes have arrived in camp ahead of their competition in the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. They are acclimatising to the heat after their long travel, but will soon be in action.

“All our Team SA members are fit and healthy and we’re heading into the final few days,” said Team SA chef de mission Kim Pople. “Today (Thursday) there are four athletes in action and it’s all systems go. Travis Fisher is competing in the individual waterskiing slalom and then it’s speed sports climbing with Chris Crosser and Lauren Mukheibir.

“It is so hot here,” Pople said. “The duathletes had a good flush session with the physios after their arrival and there have been long discussions about the heat because they will be competing in extreme heat and hydration is so important.

“The sport climbing venue is stunning! It’s a historical area for steel and iron producing so it is hot but the backdrop to the sport climbing is fantastic. We’re into the last four days of competition before Sunday’s closing ceremony, but there’s still a lot to look forward to,” Pople added.
