Visagie tumbles to gold in Russia

South African teenager Tiaan Visagie won the bronze medal in the 15-16 year-old category at tumbling’s World Age Group competition in St Petersburg, Russia.

Visagie qualified for the finals with a score of 64.900 behind Aaron Cook (US) and Mikhail Manin (Rus). In the final round, the bronze medallist was 0.2 points short of silver which was won by Mikhail Manin and 1.6 points short of gold medallist Aaron Cook.

Visagie is a product of the Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) National Academy Programme (NAP) which seeks to improve sports performance and bring South Africa on par with other sporting nations by creating opportunities for talented athletes to exploit their potential to the full.  Coached by Hein Jonck, from Gauteng North, Tiaan who trains at the SAGF National Academy of Gymnastics has a bright future in Tumbling.

On Tiaan’s achievement, Hein Jonck said, ÔÇ£I’m thrilled that Tiaan has achieved a medal after all the hard work in preparing for this event.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£His achievement is a testament to the SAGF High Performance Programme, the National Academy Programme, the coaches and the continued support received from the Lottery.
