Erhard, Andrea win again

Erhard Wolfaardt and Andrea Steyn stayed on the winning track with victories at the Momentum iFlex indoor duathlon in Centurion on Thursday.

A select invitation-only group of less than 10 versatile athletes lined up at the Virgin Active gym. No official times were available as it was an invitation-only event but great exposure as it carried extensive SuperSport television coverage.

Said Wolfaardt: “The men’s race was very close with the top thee positions changing often. We were all together on the opening 2km run with only seconds separating us. I took the lead on the 15km bike and kept it from a fast chasing Wilhelm Steyn [Andrea’s husband], Travis Johnston and Chris Felgate on the 3km treadmill run. In the end I managed to hold on for the win ahead of Wilhelm and
Michael Pienaar. A great event, but very hard!”

Hard seems to be a common description of the event. “Yes, it was hard, very hard,” said Steyn, currently unbeaten after three legs of the BSG-Energade triathlon series currently underway. “On the first run ÔÇô two kilometres around the gym track ÔÇô all five girls were basically together. I mad a gap on the 10km stationery bike leg.

Rosalyn Laurens [Wolfaardt’s girlfriend] was second off the bike about 50sec after me and then on the final run (3km on the treadmill and 2 laps around the gym track) I managed to keep my lead, but a very hard race.”

Steyn ended ahead of Laurens, Carla van Huyssteen, Lucie Reed and Riana de Lange.
