How Team SA fared on Tuesday in Namibia

Team SA enjoyed another successful day at the Region 5 Games in Namibia when they won medals across four sports – athletics, swimming, table tennis and judo, while Special Olympics (athletics) and visually impaired athletics also won a medal. 

Swimming signed off their competition with a total of 49 medals, of which 21 were gold. Athletics added seven to the four they’d won on the opening day as well. Overall, Team SA moved to 87 medals.

Here’s a look at how Team SA fared on Tuesday.

ATHLETICS (FINALS)

Girls 100m: Lize van Zyl won BRONZE with a time of 12.38 

Girls 800m: Chemene Mentz won GOLD

Girls javelin: Stephane Hook won GOLD with a throw of 45.67m

Boys 100m: Jacobus van der Westhuizen won BRONZE

Boys 400m: Aneeq Salie won the BRONZE medal and Francois Boschoff finished 5th

Boys 1500m: De Villiers Lamprecht won GOLD in 3:55.63 and Michael Bekker won the SILVER medal

Boys long jump: Luke Raffels won the GOLD medal with a jump in excess of 7m

Boys T13 100m: Khutso Mohlamonyane won the SILVER medal

Team SA U16 beat Malawi 63-50

JUDO (FINALS)

Girls -48kg: Tamsyn-Lee Stead won GOLD

Girls -57kg: Catalina de Oliveira won BRONZE

Boys -60kg: Hlobanisa Bobi won BRONZE

Boys -66kg: Sinqobile Shongwe won BRONZE

Boys -73kg: Levon Gylinyan won GOLD

Group match: Team SA beat Malawi 48-29

Boys long jump, div 2: Inam Kama won BRONZE with a distance of 3.83m

SWIMMING (FINALS)

Boys 400m freestyle: Lance Cromhout won GOLD in 3:55.81 and Guy Wessels finished 5th in 4:05.83

Boys 200m breaststroke: Jayden Williams finished 5th in 2:22.00

Boys 50m backstroke: Chris Esterhuyzen won GOLD in 25.54 and Josh Esterhuyzen took SILVER in 25.89

Boys 100m butterfly: Matthew Pretorius won GOLD in 53.46 and Christian Esterhuyzen won SILVER in 55.21

Boys 4x50m freestyle: Josh Esterhuyzen, Tumelo Mahan, Guy Wessels and Matthew Pretorius won GOLD in 1:31.83

Girls 50m freestyle: Jessica Carmody won GOLD in 26.18 with Morgan Cope finishing 4th in 27.01 

Girls 200m IM: Georgia Els won GOLD in 2:17.23 and Moya Mgcina finished 5th in 2:27.12

Girls 200m backstroke: Indiana de Villiers won SILVER in 2:18.26 and Kaitlyn Horne won BRONZE in 2:20.48

Girls 400m medley relay: Indiana de Villiers, Morgan Cope, Georgia Els and Jessica Carmody won GOLD in 4:15.03

TENNIS

Boys doubles, quarter-finals: Simphiwe Ngweya and Bogdan Mandic beat Botswana 6-2 7-6 (5)

Boys doubles, quarter-finals: Dehan van Deventer and Oluhle Senti lost against Angola 6-0 5-7 1-10.

Girls doubles, quarter-finals: Abilayel Vosloo and Milla Kotze beat Namibia 6-1 6-2

Girld doubles, quarter-finals: Jess Schilz and Sophia Singh lost against Zimbabwe 4-6 3-6

Mixed doubles, quarter-finals: Dehan van Deventer and Abigayel Vosloo beat Lesotho 4-6 6-2 10-5

Mixed doubles, quarter-finals: Simphiwe Ngwenya and Milla Hartig beat Namibia 6-1 6-4

VOLLEYBALL
