Kevin Anderson’s reaching the final of the Apia International tournament in Sydney at the weekend has seen him climb to 31st on the ATP Tour tennis rankings, writes Mark Etheridge.
Anderson went down in three sets to Australian Bernard Tomic on Saturday but his performances over the week Down Under, have seen him improve from his previous week’s ranking of 36.
He’ll be in action in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, in Melbourne later on Monday when he takes on Italy’s Paulo Lorenzi in the first round.
Lorenzi is ranked 58th in the world.
Meanwhile our only entry in the women’s draw of the Australian Open, Chani Scheepers went out in first round action on Monday.
She went down in straight sets, 6-1 6-2 to Czech Republic’s Klara Zakopalova, a played ranked 22nd in the world. Scheepers is currently ranked 65th on the WTA Tour rankings, a drop of three positions compared to last week.
