Another big city marathon win for Van Dyk

Multiple Paralympian Ernst van Dyk has raced to to his second victory in the space of three days, writes Mark Etheridge.

On Thursday, Van Dyk won the Rolling Rampage 10-kilometre wheelchair event in Ottawa, Canada.

He told Road to Rio 2016 after that race that he had a good feeling about racing his second Chicago Marathon (he was fourth a few years back). It was a feeling that was spot-on as he beat Kurt Fearnley of Australia by just one second in a time of 1hr 30min 37sec, right. So close was the sprint that officials needed a photo-finish to decide the winner.

“It was pretty exciting,” Van Dyk said. “We were together the whole way, playing games, playing cat and mouse. I had to dig a little bit more and attacked the corner with good speed,”┬áhe said after the race.

Van Dyk’s victory will do his confidence no end of good as he continues to chase a 10th Boston Marathon win next year.
