The weekend’s OCC-Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge played out to a repeat performance of last year’s event with Paralympic legend Ernst van Dyk taking line honours once again, writes Mark Etheridge.
Van Dyk, 40, won the marathon event in a time of 1hr 08min 36sec to hold of Rustenburg’s Andries Scheepers (1:08:37) and Stuart McCreadie (1:08:44).
“We went pretty quick in the hot and humid conditions but it was┬á a comfortable win for me. Now I have to dig deep into my training for the upcoming Argus Cycle Tour, London and Boston Marathons. I just hope this heat wave in the Western Cape is not a long term thing,” said the six-time Paralympian.
Van Dyk will be using the London Marathon as part of his build-up for a crack at a 10th win in the Boston Marathon in April.
