The Blitzboks stayed on song at the HSBC World Sevens in Singapore on Saturday, downing France in a hard-fought Pool B clash.
The match was nothing like the 52-0 rout of Japan in their opening fixture and there was only a try in each half as the Blitzboks won 10-7.
It was that man Siviwe Soyizwapi who opened the score just over a minute into the game with a sweeping move from a lineout down the right, the ball traversing the width of the field and Soyizwapi went over down the left.
The conversion was missed and the halftime score was 5-0.
Early in the second half it was Soyizwapi again after a tapped penalty and some good work from Cecil Afrika.
The conversion was again missed and it was 10-0.
In the first match against Japan, Soyizwapi had crossed for a hat-trick of tries.
With two minutes to go there were some anxious moments in the Blitzbok camp as Soyizwapi was yellow-carded for a high tackle and sent to the sin-bin.
France took immediate advantage of the six-man South African side and Sacha Valleau danced over after a quickly taken penalty.
But the Blitzboks stayed calm and kept France at bay before Soyizwapi returned.
The French had one final chance with a chip and chase but Dylan Sage got down well to secure possession. France were penalised at the resultant ruck and Africa gladly booted the ball out and the Blitzboks can regroup for their final match of the day against England just after 1pm SA time.
