Philippa Johnson’s European equestrian campaign continues with another promising performance in Belgium, writes Mark Etheridge.
The three-time Paralympian took part in the CDN Schilde dressage competition, in testing circumstances.
“We braved wild winds and rain storms to compete,” she told Road to Rio 2016.
“Because Chris [Haazen] my trainer was not with me I only dared to take Verdi. We competed in the Int 1 with no big mistakes but lacking a bit of spit and polish on some points.
“We finished fourth with 66.90% out of a class of 15 horses.”
Johnson has taken part at three Paralympic Games with her best being in Beijing in 2008 where she collected two gold medals. In Athens, four years before, she had won two silver medals.
At the last Olympics in London she failed to win a medal for Team South Africa.
