Sprinter Carina Horn qualified for the semi-finals of the 60-metre dash at Saturday’s second day of the IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland, writes Mark Etheridge.
It was an early birthday present for Horn who turns 25 on Sunday, the final day of the championships.
Running in heat three of six, Horn ended third in a time of 7.36 seconds, gained direct qualification into the semis as the first three of each heat went straight through.
Her heat was won by Germany’s Verena Sailer in 7.13.
Horn’s time was 26th quickest of 43 in the heats with the fastest going to Ivory Coast’s Muriell Ahour├® who clocked 7.09.
The semi-finals and finals will both be contested on Sunday where Horn will be hoping for the perfect birthday gift.
Her current indoor best is the 7.28 she ran earlier this year in Wien, Austria.
